This is a picture from the following Wikipedia article, linking the Singapore Skyline to articles about these buildings. I thought this would be cool to compare to the picture taken by a relative to these buildings and see if you recognise any of them. The picture is about a year old, so not really up-to-date.

The Republic of Singapore Airforce is training their stunts over the city for Singapore National Day later this year (9th of August). They fly every few days and make their loopings and acrobatic tricks. Because the Singapore airspace is as small as the state itself, there’s not really much choice to do it away from urban neighborhoods. Also the Chinooks and Black Hawks come out occasionally to join them.
While talking about this at work, the Singapore National Service was discussed. The Singapore Armed Forces is highly sophisticated and they have one of the most modern armies and most highly trained officers. It’s has definitely the best hardware in the region and when necessary they can mobilise 300.000 reserves and 72.500 active force. All (healthy) Singapore men are required to train once a year for anything between a weekend and a few weeks until they’re 40 or 50 years old. Occasionally this is abroad in countries like Australia and the United Kingdom.
It’s predomentatly the geographical location in Asia that requires Singapore to be “strong”.
I have applied a new and more exciting theme to my website today. I hope everybody likes it as much as I do. I am getting close to the point in the development, where the structure should be stable and I should be able to open this for beta-testing to a larger community. Next steps: find a host that supports multi-user blog implementations.
That’s literally a mouthful for a Japanese restaurant that serves deep-fried pork and chicken. But there’s much more to it. Tonkichi’s pork fillets are beautiful and the bread-crumb crust is crispy. Combine that with freshly crushed sesame seeds and sesame oil, nice soup, cabage and some steam rice and you’re talking about a delicious lunch. We went to their restaurant in Ngee Ann City Mall or also known as Takashimaya Shopping Centre, which could very well be one of the biggest and most high-end malls in Singapore on Orchard Road. The top floors are filled with “expensive” or “exclusive” restaurants.
These 2 pictures were taken by a relative who sailed into Singapore on a freighter last week. Unfortunately the weather was terrible, but I am sure it’s a view not many get to see. If you look on the left picture, you’ll recognise the Singapore Flyer near The Singapore River, the photo on the right must be the CBD and construction of Marina Bay.
But when he left a few hours later, the weather was a lot better, as you can see in the pictures below.
