Crimes in Perspective

With knife crimes going out-of-control in the UK, I thought I’d dig a little deeper into crime-rates in Singapore. I think I mentioned once that tight rules keep crime low. I must say, I have only seen a police-car twice, never heard a siren. I feel completely safe here all the time and I have been guaranteed that when the police is needed, they seem to appear from everywhere.

Going back in history, there’ve been some high profile cases of foreigners ending up in jail in Singapore for smuggling drugs. With 2 death-penalties for one Dutch and one Australian citizen. Apart from that, some murders and killings under questionable circumstances. More recently crime-cases have been in relation to counter-terrorism, with recently the capture of members (and escape) of the leader of Asian terror cells.

There’s really nothing much to report, except for the occasional case of chewing-gum offenses. Hard to believe that it’s so out-of-control in Europe and some other places on the planet.
