Adventures of a World Traveler…

Ever since the temperatures have dropped a few degrees in the morning (no need for air-conditioning) and I discovered that the bus is actually a lot easier and less crowded in the morning than the MRT, I have been catching the bus to work. There’re 2 lines that run between Dover and Commonwealth (105 and 147), one which is a double-decker bus line and one normal.

Both buses have the local news on Television in the morning and 9 out of 10 times there would even be a seat. That is if I would fit in an Asian row of seats! But I am happy to stand the 5 or 6 stations it takes to get me to work. In the MRT there would be NO change of a seat, since the station that I get on, is dozens of stations away from the start-point and I’d be lucky if I get in at all.

One other advantage of getting the bus, is that at the bus-stop I get off, there’s a lady handing out Singapore’s free newspaper in the morning. Today newspaper is a part English and part Chinese tabloid newspaper, published by MediaCorp, the company (government) that also owns part of StarHub. It’s a great little newspaper, which quickly get’s you up to date with what’s going on in the world. Because this newspaper is handed out at the major bus interchanges, what you normally see around you while traveling to work, is kids and students playing they PSP or mobile games on their phones and the parents and adults reading the Today.

Today used to write a column of “Mr Brown“, who now is a blogging legend in Singapore. His column in the newspaper was banned a few years ago. Today also has a free weekend edition.

This is what bugs some people…No one is allowed- well in Mr Browns case- he was banned- to say anything negative about this country…Some say it is an inferiority complex..Typical in young countries.
