Tomorrow it’ll be 2 months since we arrived in Singapore and two remarkable things I discovered lately, I would like to add and share with you.
“Walking the dog”
It seems that the term walking-the-dog has a special meaning here in Singapore. It obviously doesn’t involve a lot of walking. I know it’s hot and humid for all of us, including our little friend the dog. It’s probably pretty horrible being a chubby and hairy dog here, especially if you just relocated from a cold Western-European country. But maids, it doesn’t mean that after you turned the corner of the house, you have to gather all around and sit in the grass with the dogs. When I walk home at 6pm, it is like all the maids gather to sit-the-dog. This doesn’t help the dog to adjust to the climate. No wonder all these dogs look like Garfield.
“Working out”
Also this term Working-out does have it’s own meaning. In most countries it actually involves “working”, here in Singapore it mostly involves a book and flip-flops. Really, in the morning I can easily overtake somebody who pretends to be working out. Maybe the fact that if you can read a book while doing it and/or wearing flip-flops, doesn’t really count as exercise. So, what’s with the towel, the wrist-band iPod and drinking-bottle if you don’t even sweat.
I am sorry if I offended anybody and no, I don’t walk dogs and don’t work out regularly!
