I have decided to keep a photo-diary of the renovation or demolishing of the building across the street from The Marbella.

These are 2 HDB flats that have been empty ever since we moved in, but we only noticed that since they started demolishing the next door building and putting up the scaffold. It’s part of the scheme where HDB flats make room for expensive condominiums.

[05.07.2008] Since we moved in, or more specifically, since about 3 weeks, the troops have already demolished a 4 or 5 story building on the right side of the first picture. If you look good, you can see how currently a few diggers are sorting the steel from the concrete. In the last week, they’ve also build up the scaffold along the 2 higher buildings and the big question is, are they going to renovate or are they going to take down these 2 buildings as well?

[30.07.2008] The second picture shows 2 full-size diggers on the roof and a crane that put them there, which is being removed. This means we’ll have the sound of drills and jackhammers for the next weeks! Not something to look forward to.

[23.08.2008] Almost a month into the demolition and the building in the back has gone for 1/3. Roughly the top 5 floors have been removed.

I guess the future will tell. I will keep uploading pictures of the progress.

One star because this development madness all over Singapore is driving me crazy! The builders here can work from 8am-7pm 6 days a week…and the jackhammers never never stop!

Its all over Singapore- and it is the one thing I will not miss about this place when we leave…
