Today, Olivia came back from here Thailand trip and after I told here about Sunset Way, the restaurants there and how close it was to our house, we decided this would be the perfect sport for a farewell dinner for Tom. We ended up having the Kobe Beef, Kurobuta Pork and Cappuccino Ecstasy Cheese Cake at Grill-Out.
Even on a Friday night, Sunset Way is a great place to hang out. Nice atmosphere but no rain this time. So, Sunset Way still get’s 5 starts, Grill Out get’s a decent 4 starts:

After that fantastic lunch today, we decided to go and have a few well-deserved after work drinks. Surprisingly, almost walking distance from where I live, there’s an area called Sunset Way in Clementi. This is a block of bars, pubs and restaurants with a great atmosphere. We sat and drank all evening at the Sunset Tavern. But there many more very good restaurants in the same block, but I’d like to mention Grill Out (Kurobuta pork, which is the equivalent of Kobe beef), Yum Yum Thai, Fortune Cuise (charcoal steamboat) and Cafe D’Orient.

Yesterday was an interesting day from a culanairy perspective. I had the world famous XO Brandy Fish Head Bee Hoon for lunch at the well know food stall in Holland Village. Now, you need to know that I am actually not a big fish eater, but the sliced fish head XO Brandy fish soup is absolutely delicious. If you’re ever in the area, visit this place and you will not be disappointed. It’s not in Holland Village itself, but in one of the HDB blocks towards Commonwealth Avenue. Also read the interetsing story on how this dish was “invented” in the link provided in this post.

Last month I was invited through a colleague at work to a charity golf tournament for Teen Challenge. Teen Challenge is a member of the National Council of Social Service and a registered Institution of Public Character that grew out of the compassionate heart of a Church pastor, Rev Dr Naomi Dowdy, in 1976. Their quest to meet the needs of youths in Singapore originated from a humble rented flat at MacPherson Road to house several drug addicts. Since then many key leaders and staff have been influential in touching lives and helping many teens, youth and adult offenders reintegrate into society.
Then this month I was approached by “Blog Action Day” to write about poverty. What better way to combine these 2 events and point your attention to NCSS, the National Council of Social Service. Not only is the Teen Challenge a member here, the NCSS also has a corner for the relief of Poverty for example and among many others.
If you want to participate, I am sure they’re always looking for volunteers, donation can be made through the Community Chest or through many charity events.

Yesterday we had our first “lads night out” with a few of Jesper’s friends in Singapore.
We started of with the amazing all-you-can-eat buffet at MELT World Cafe in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at 5 Raffles Avenue in Singapore. Here you can have all the best seafood (lobsters and oysters), Sushi, Asian & Indian and BBQ steaks and ribs. As with most buffets, make sure you save a little room for the deserts. All in all good value for money, a perfect diner as you can expect from a 5 star hotel, with free-flowing beers and wines for around S$100pp.
We continued our night at Insomnia at Chijmes. Chijmes is a former cloister in the centre of Singapore, that has been transformed in a going-out mecca, with bars and restaurants, some of the best in Singapore. Insomnia seems very popular by especially the expats in Singapore. The place is not too big, but the band is insane.
But although the bar was called insomnia, at 2am my lights went out and it was time to go home!
