I am looking forward to entertaining the newly-weds from Kuala Lumpur this weekend and am planning some exciting things to do:
- Indoor Rockwall climbing -> check
- Maybe a round of golf or some driving range
- Dinner at MELT World Cafe or Morton’s Steakhouse in Mandarin Oriental -> check both
- After-party wurstel at Erich’s Wurstelstand -> check
- Some light shopping in Orchard Roads newest malls -> check
- Drinks in the city at Robertson Walk, Clarke Quay & Boat Quay -> check
- Maybe a movie in Gold Class at Vivocity -> “GI Joe” too late, Bruno too repulsive and The Destination too scary
- Some hawker food in Holland Village -> check
- And some relaxing at the pool
Any more suggestions?

A few month ago, we got some BBQ pork (bak kwa) from China Town. The bag has been on my table ever since, to remind me to blog about it. In this part of the world, barbecued pork slices are associated with joy and pleasure of important events like Weddings, Birthdays, Christmas and of course Chinese New Years. Chinese New Year 2010 falls on Valentines Day February 14th. You’ll see a long long queue building the weeks and days ahead of the celebrations. Some people wait upto an hour in line to get some of the best BBQ Pork. Apparently, the shop of mister Kim Hock Guan is one of the best. His shop has been in his family for 4 generations and their pork slices are made from sliced pork, where a lot of other shops make them from minced meat. We bought a selection of (normal and chilli) barbecued pork slices as well as (normal and crispy) pork floss before the rest of Singapore decides to queue up again for next years festivities. The sliced version is a lot tougher to eat than the minced one.

Imagine, in my finals weeks in Singapore I get to learn the more important things in life, like the fact that Singapore has a true Restroom Association with a “Happy Toilet Award“. I was watching a travel show on Discovery Travel & Living channel as they handed the 5-star award to the toilets in Singapore Zoo. Having used these toilets once, I have to admit these are extra-ordinary. Not sure if it requires a Restroom Association to confirm that. Toilets set is an open and natural environment…

According to this blog on the Lonely Planet website, the rainy season in South East Asia has started again. I must admit, the weather is quite pleasant at the moment, but I haven’t seen a lot of rain lately.
I usually believe the Lonely Planet, I love reading their blogs and articles. Makes me want to travel again. Currently thinking of where to go next. It’s been a while since I bought a Lonely Planet guide. End up reading the ones that I already have. Like South Africa, California, Singapore and Malaysia. Maybe it’s time to buy the Southeast Asia on a Shoestring guide and do some serious travelling and exploring in the region. Rainy season or not, I would love to see more from this part of the world. If only I had a job that allowed me more free time!
